AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further providing for meeting or overtaking school
3 bus.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 3345(a) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 3345. Meeting or overtaking school bus.
9 (a) Duty of approaching driver when red signals are
10 flashing.--Except as provided in subsection (g), the driver of a
11 vehicle meeting or overtaking any school bus stopped on a
12 highway or trafficway shall stop at least [ten feet] 50 feet, or
13 approximately three car lengths, before reaching the school bus
14 when the red signal lights on the school bus are flashing and
15 the side stop signal arms are activated under section 4552(b.1)
16 (relating to general requirements for school buses). The driver
17 shall not proceed until the flashing red signal lights are no
18 longer actuated. In no event shall a driver of a vehicle resume
1 motion of the vehicle until the school children who may have
2 alighted from the school bus have reached a place of safety. The
3 driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection at which a
4 school bus is stopped shall stop his vehicle at that
5 intersection until the flashing red signal lights are no longer
6 actuated.
