           RAFFERTY, ERICKSON, LAVALLE, GREENLEAF, O'PAKE, WASHINGTON,
           DINNIMAN, GORDNER, MUSTO, ORIE, PILEGGI, WAUGH, FOLMER,
           BAKER, D. WHITE, TOMLINSON, MADIGAN, McILHINNEY, EARLL,
           BRUBAKER, BROWNE, EICHELBERGER, RHOADES, VANCE, CORMAN,
           SCARNATI, ARMSTRONG, PIPPY, PICCOLA AND WONDERLING,

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MARCH 12, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of March 11 through 17, 2007, as "Girl
     2     Scout Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Throughout the towns, cities and rural areas of this
     4  Commonwealth, more than 150,000 girls are developing self-
     5  confidence, self-esteem, discipline and sensitivity through
     6  their participation in Girl Scouts; and
     7     WHEREAS, For 95 years, Girl Scouting has inspired millions of
     8  girls and women throughout our nation with the highest ideals of
     9  character, conduct and patriotism, making Girl Scouts of the
    10  United States of America the largest organization for girls in
    11  the world; and
    12     WHEREAS, A girl's education is enhanced and enriched by her
    13  Girl Scout experience, and Girl Scouting takes an active role in
    14  increasing the interest and skill levels of today's youth in
    15  science and technology to fulfill our country's economic needs;

     1  and
     2     WHEREAS, Girl Scout troops have been led by volunteers who
     3  have donated their time and expertise, leading troops, serving
     4  on boards and councils and providing stewardship for the
     5  organization, which makes it possible for any girl, regardless
     6  of race, religion or socioeconomic circumstances, to become a
     7  Girl Scout; and
     8     WHEREAS, Twelve Girl Scout councils are incorporated in this
     9  Commonwealth for the purpose of extending membership and
    10  managing Girl Scout programs and properties for the benefit of
    11  Girl Scouts and their families in every county of this
    12  Commonwealth; and
    13     WHEREAS, Each young woman who makes and lives by the Girl
    14  Scout Promise:
    15                     On my honor, I will try:
    16                     To serve God and my country,
    17                     To help people at all times,
    18                     And to live by the Girl Scout Law,
    19  will be among the leaders of this Commonwealth in the 21st
    20  century; and
    21     WHEREAS, In helping to motivate, educate and inspire these
    22  girls, the Girl Scout movement enriches the quality of life for
    23  all citizens of this Commonwealth; therefore be it
    24     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of March 11
    25  through 17, 2007, as "Girl Scout Week" in Pennsylvania.
