A RESOLUTION
Designating February 24, 2015, as "Housing Awareness Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth provides in excess of 200,000
subsidized, assisted or affordable rental dwelling units within
its boundaries, funded through Federal and State programs
including, but not limited to, Public Housing, Multi-Family,
Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and others, with an additional
43,000 affordable housing units that have been developed through
the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program; and
WHEREAS, There continues to be a demand for even more
affordable housing for low-income families, senior citizens,
veterans and individuals with physical and mental challenges;
and
WHEREAS, The provision of safe, secure, accessible and
affordable housing greatly impacts the lives of these
individuals; and
WHEREAS, Subsidized, assisted and affordable housing improves

the socioeconomic climate of this Commonwealth by benefiting not
only the residents, but also their neighbors, local businesses,
employers and their communities as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Creating awareness of the needs and the benefits of
housing assistance is essential to the growth and stability of
those who are served; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Association of Housing and
Redevelopment Agencies, in partnership with the Housing Alliance
of Pennsylvania, works closely with their members and industry
partners to build, develop, support and provide suitable housing
and related services; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate February 24, 2015, as
"Housing Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
