                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, authorizing special dump service registration; and
     3     further providing for maximum gross weight of vehicles.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 4910.  Special dump service registration.
     9     (a)  General rule.--The department shall require a special
    10  dump service registration for all dump trucks operated within
    11  this Commonwealth pursuant to the provisions of sections 4941
    12  (relating to maximum gross weight of vehicles) and 4943
    13  (relating to maximum axle weight of vehicles). The department
    14  shall stamp the words "dump service" on each registration card
    15  issued for a vehicle registered under this section and may issue
    16  special registration plates to distinguish registrations made
    17  under this section.
    18     (b)  Exemption from weight requirements.--A vehicle operating

     1  pursuant to the criteria of section 4943(b) shall be exempt from
     2  the requirements of this section.
     3     (c)  Other state registrations.--The department may waive the
     4  requirements of this section for vehicles registered by another
     5  state provided that the other state does not require special
     6  dump service registration for Commonwealth registered vehicles.
     7     Section 2.  Section 4941 of Title 75 is amended by adding a
     8  subsection to read:
     9  § 4941.  Maximum gross weight of vehicles.

    11     (d)  Special application.--Notwithstanding the provisions of
    12  this section, a truck with up to seven axles, which has two or
    13  more steerable and braked lift-axles, may be operated on a
    14  highway with a gross vehicle weight that does not exceed 80,000
    15  pounds and provided the provisions of this section and section
    16  4943 (relating to maximum axle weight of vehicles) are met.
    17     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
