                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of January 25, 1966 (1965 P.L.1546, No.541),
     2     entitled "An act providing scholarships and providing funds
     3     to secure Federal funds for qualified students of the
     4     Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who need financial assistance to
     5     attend postsecondary institutions of higher learning, making
     6     an appropriation, and providing for the administration of
     7     this act," further providing for grants to students in five
     8     year study courses.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Subsection (d) of section 4, act of January 25,
    12  1966 (1965 P.L.1546, No.541), entitled "An act providing
    13  scholarships and providing funds to secure Federal funds for
    14  qualified students of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who need
    15  financial assistance to attend postsecondary institutions of
    16  higher learning, making an appropriation, and providing for the
    17  administration of this act," amended December 18, 1969 (P.L.383,
    18  No.169), is amended to read:
    19     Section 4.  * * *
    20     (d)  Undergraduate awards granted during the first year under
    21  this act will be limited to freshmen students at institutions of


     1  higher learning. Awards will be renewable for the next three
     2  academic years. In the case of students enrolled in five year
     3  work study programs, approved by the agency and established by
     4  institutions of higher education, awards may be renewed for the
     5  next four academic years, provided that the total scholarship
     6  funds awarded to any student during the five year period shall
     7  not exceed the amount to which such student would have been
     8  entitled had his educational program been completed in a period
     9  of four academic years. Awards will be renewable for the next
    10  four years for those students enrolled in agency approved five
    11  year undergraduate professional preparation programs.
    12     Section 2.  Subsection (a) of section 8 of the act is amended
    13  to read:
    14     Section 8.  (a) Each State scholarship is renewable until the
    15  course of study is completed, but not to exceed an additional
    16  three academic years beyond the first year of the award or four
    17  years in the case of those agency approved programs under
    18  subsection (d) of section 4 of this act. These may not
    19  necessarily be consecutive years and the scholarship will be
    20  terminated if the student receives his degree in a shorter
    21  period of time. Qualifications for renewal will include
    22  maintaining satisfactory academic standing, making normal
    23  progress toward completion of the course of study, and continued
    24  eligibility as determined by the agency including continual
    25  legal residency.

    27     Section 3.  This act shall take effect with scholarships
    28  granted for the fiscal period beginning July 1, 1976.
