                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, requiring portable emergency warning devices to be
     3     carried in passenger cars.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 4530 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 4530.  Portable emergency warning devices.
     9     (a)  General rule.--Every passenger car, truck, truck tractor
    10  and bus and any motor vehicle towing a trailer shall carry at
    11  least three portable emergency warning devices of a type
    12  specified by regulations promulgated by the department. The
    13  regulations shall be consistent with Motor Carrier Safety
    14  Regulations, Department of Transportation, Federal Highway
    15  Administration, Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety, section 393.95.
    16     (b)  When display required.--Whenever any vehicle of a type
    17  referred to in subsection (a) is disabled or stopped for more
    18  than ten minutes upon a roadway or shoulder outside of an urban

     1  district, or upon any divided highway, the driver of the vehicle
     2  shall display the portable warning devices of the type required
     3  under subsection (a) in such manner as the department shall
     4  direct by regulations.
     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 90 days.
