                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for creditable
     3     nonstate service.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 5304(c)(2) of Title 71 of the
     7  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 5304.  Creditable nonstate service.
     9     * * *
    10     (c)  Limitations on nonstate service.--Creditable nonstate
    11  service credit shall be limited to:
    12         * * *
    13         (2)  other military service not exceeding five years,
    14     including service in any of the reserve units of the armed
    15     forces of the United States and in the National Guard;

    17     Section 2.  Section 5505 of Title 71 is amended by adding a
    18  subsection to read:

     1  § 5505.  Contributions for the purchase of credit for
     2             creditable nonstate service.
     3     * * *
     4     (f)  Purchase of reserve and National Guard service.--
     5  Contributions on account of credit for service in any reserve
     6  unit of the armed forces of the United States or the National
     7  Guard under section 5304(c)(2) (relating to creditable nonstate
     8  service) shall be equal to the present value of the full
     9  actuarial cost of the increase in the projected superannuation
    10  annuity caused by the additional service credited. The amount
    11  contributed under this subsection shall not be payable as a lump
    12  sum under section 5705(a)(4)(iii) (relating to member's
    13  options).
    14     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
