        SENATOR TILGHMAN, APPROPRIATIONS, IN SENATE, RE-REPORTED
           AS AMENDED, JUNE 29, 1987

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making appropriations from the Workmen's Compensation
     2     Administration Fund to the Department of Labor and Industry
     3     to provide for the expenses of administering The Pennsylvania
     4     Workmen's Compensation Act and The Pennsylvania Occupational
     5     Disease Act for the fiscal year July 1, 1987, to June 30,
     6     1988, and for the payment of bills incurred and remaining
     7     unpaid at the close of the fiscal year ending June 30, 1987.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  (A)  The sum of $12,225,000 $13,028,000, or as     <--
    11  much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated from
    12  the Workmen's Compensation Administration Fund to the Department
    13  of Labor and Industry for the payment of all salaries, wages and
    14  other compensation and travel expenses, for contractual services
    15  and other expenses necessary for the administration of the act
    16  of June 2, 1915 (P.L.736, No.338), known as The Pennsylvania
    17  Workmen's Compensation Act and the act of June 21, 1939
    18  (P.L.566, No.284), known as The Pennsylvania Occupational
    19  Disease Act, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1987, and for

     1  the payment of bills incurred and remaining unpaid at the close
     2  of the fiscal year ending June 30, 1987.
     3     (B)  IT IS THE INTENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY THAT THE FILLED  <--
     4  COMPLEMENT LEVEL OF WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION REFEREES BE INCREASED
     5  TO AT LEAST 55 AND THAT SUFFICIENT SUPPORT PERSONNEL BE PROVIDED
     6  FOR THE REFEREES SO THAT THE TIME FOR CONSIDERATION OF CONTESTED
     7  WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION CASES IS REDUCED AND THE PRESENT BACKLOG
     8  OF CASES ARE BROUGHT TO DECISION.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1987, or
    10  immediately, whichever is later.
