AN ACT
1 Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
2 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
3 duties and jurisdiction of the Municipal Court of
4 Philadelphia.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Section 1123(a)(5) of Title 42, act of November
8 25, 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania
9 Consolidated Statutes, is amended to read:
10 § 1123. Jurisdiction and venue.
11 (a) General rule.--Except as otherwise prescribed by any
12 general rule adopted pursuant to section 503 (relating to
13 reassignment of matters), the Philadelphia Municipal Court shall
14 have jurisdiction of the following matters:

16 (5) [As commissioners to preside at arraignments, fix
17 and accept bail, issue warrants and perform duties of a
18 similar nature, including the jurisdiction of a committing
1 magistrate in all criminal proceedings.] In order to exercise
2 its jurisdiction under this paragraph, the Philadelphia
3 Municipal Court through the president judge shall have the
4 power to and may appoint no more than six commissioners, who
5 shall be members of the Bar of the Supreme Court of
6 Pennsylvania, to preside at arraignments, fix and accept
7 bail, issue warrants and perform duties of a similar nature.
8 The commissioners shall be employees of the Commonwealth of
9 Pennsylvania and their salary shall be the same as judges of
10 the Traffic Court of Philadelphia. They shall serve at the
11 pleasure of the president judge of the municipal court.

13 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
