                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for the movement of certain
     3     devices while under manufacture.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1943(c) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 1943.  Annual hauling permits.
     9     * * *
    10     (c)  Equipment being manufactured.--The annual fee for
    11  operation or movement of equipment being manufactured, as
    12  provided for in section 4968 (relating to permit for movement
    13  [of equipment being manufactured] during course of manufacture),
    14  shall be $50.

    16     Section 2.  Section 4904 of Title 75 is amended by adding a
    17  subsection to read:
    18  § 4904.  Limits on number of towed vehicles.

     2     (g)  Certain combinations permitted under section 4968.--
     3  Combinations consisting of a truck tractor and no more than two
     4  trailers, not exceeding 102 inches in width and 28 1/2 feet in
     5  length and operated under a permit issued under section 4968
     6  (relating to permit for movement during course of manufacture),
     7  may be driven on any highway.
     8     Section 3.  Section 4968 of Title 75 is amended to read:
     9  § 4968.  Permit for movement [of equipment being manufactured]
    10             during course of manufacture.
    11     An annual permit may be issued authorizing [the manufacturer]
    12  movement on highways of boats, trailers, mobile homes, modular
    13  housing units and undercarriages, helicopters, railway equipment
    14  and rails or other articles, vehicles or combinations [not
    15  normally used on highways to move articles] thereof which exceed
    16  the maximum height, width or length specified in Subchapter B
    17  (relating to width, height and length) while they are in the
    18  course of manufacture and [while they are] entirely within the
    19  control of the manufacturer [and not], subject to the following
    20  provisions:
    21         (1)  Except for articles and vehicles not exceeding 102
    22     inches in width, no permit shall be issued under this section
    23     for movement of articles or vehicles while they are in
    24     transit from the manufacturer to a purchaser or dealer[. A
    25     permit shall not be issued] or for the movement of articles
    26     or vehicles upon a freeway.
    27         (2)  Articles and vehicles not in excess of 102 inches
    28     may be moved any distance on a permit. Articles and vehicles
    29     wider than 102 inches but not in excess of ten feet in width
    30     may be moved up to 50 miles on a permit. [Larger] Wider

     1     articles and vehicles may be moved no farther than ten miles
     2     on a permit.
     3     Section 4.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
