A RESOLUTION

Recognizing October 1 through 10, 2010, as "American Art and

2

Craft Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth believes in the enduring value of

4

handmade arts and crafts and celebrates the artists and

5

craftspeople who create them; and

6

WHEREAS, Settlers came to Pennsylvania bringing their skills

7

of furniture making, pottery, weaving, metalsmithing and

8

glassblowing; and

9

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth and its people have a centuries-old

10

tradition of making these arts and crafts, as well as creating

11

decorative and fine arts and crafts through photography,

12

painting and other expressive media; and

13

WHEREAS, The arts and crafts and organizations formed by

14

them, such as the distinguished Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen

headquartered in Lancaster, Lancaster County, help to build the

2

economic base of this Commonwealth and contribute to its

3

reputation; and

4

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth acknowledges its appreciation to

5

all the artists and craftspeople who have contributed and

6

continue to contribute to the rich culture of our State; and

7

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth and its people embrace and

8

celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship of our citizens;

9

therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October

11

1 through 10, 2010, as "American Art and Craft Week" in

12

Pennsylvania.
