A RESOLUTION
1Commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Servicemen's
2Readjustment Act of 1944, commonly known as the GI Bill of
3Rights.
4WHEREAS, June 22, 2014, will mark the 70th anniversary of the
5historic signing of the original Servicemen's Readjustment Act
6of 1944, commonly known as the GI Bill of Rights, by President
7Franklin D. Roosevelt; and
8WHEREAS, The GI Bill of Rights offered veterans educational
9and training benefits, loan guaranties for homes, farms or
10businesses and unemployment pay for eligible veterans; and
11WHEREAS, Nearly 8 million World War II veterans obtained
12educational and training benefits during the post-war decade as
13a result of the GI Bill of Rights; and
14WHEREAS, The GI Bill of Rights and subsequent GI Bills have
15provided educational and training benefits to more than 12.5
1million veterans; and
2WHEREAS, Nearly 2.5 million World War II veterans secured GI
3Bill home loans during the post-war decade; and
4WHEREAS, More than 14 million home loans have been guaranteed
5for veterans to become homeowners through the GI Bill of Rights
6and subsequent GI Bills; and
7WHEREAS, Various GI Bills have been recognized by Congress as
8landmark laws which have contributed to the development of the
9middle class in the United States; and
10WHEREAS, The GI Bill of Rights has been heralded as one of
11the most significant pieces of legislation ever produced by the
12Federal Government; therefore be it
13RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
1470th anniversary of the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944,
15commonly known as the GI Bill of Rights.
