        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON FINANCE, OCTOBER 18, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Requesting the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation to work to
     2     permanently abolish the death tax.

     3     WHEREAS, Under tax relief legislation passed in 2001, the
     4  death tax was temporarily phased out but not permanently
     5  eliminated; and
     6     WHEREAS, Farmers and other small business owners face losing
     7  their farms and businesses if the Federal Government resumes the
     8  heavy taxation of citizens at death; and
     9     WHEREAS, The death tax is particularly damaging to families
    10  who are trying to accumulate wealth for the first time; and
    11     WHEREAS, Employees suffer layoffs when small or medium
    12  businesses are liquidated to pay death taxes; and
    13     WHEREAS, Having repeatedly passed in each house of the
    14  Congress of the United States, repeal of the death tax holds
    15  wide bipartisan support; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     2  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania request the Pennsylvania
     3  Congressional Delegation to support, work to pass and vote for
     4  the immediate and permanent repeal of the death tax; and be it
     5  further
     6     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     7  the members of Congress from Pennsylvania.
