A RESOLUTION

Designating October 14, 2012, as "Pulaski Day" and the month of

2

October 2012 as "Polish American Heritage Month" in

3

Pennsylvania, commemorating the 233rd anniversary of General

4

Casimir Pulaski's death and recognizing the important

5

contributions of Polish Americans to this nation's history,

6

and extending best wishes to the Polish American community in

7

Philadelphia on the 79th anniversary of the Pulaski Day

8

Parade.

WHEREAS, Polish people have contributed greatly to the

10

history of this nation; and

11

WHEREAS, The first Polish people settled in America in 1608;

12

and

13

WHEREAS, Casimir Pulaski, born March 6, 1745, in Warsaw,

14

Poland, who was General of the Cavalry of the Continental Army

15

during the American Revolution, earned the title of "Father of

16

the American Cavalry" and proved himself to be a brilliant

17

tactician and leader; and

18

WHEREAS, In October 1779, General Pulaski was mortally

19

wounded while courageously leading a charge behind the French

20

line of infantry to break the British defense in the siege of

21

Savannah, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, General Pulaski's lifework and ideals are a source

2

of strength and pride to Americans of Polish ancestry and

3

reflect the customs and culture of the Polish people; and

4

WHEREAS, This year marks the 233rd anniversary of the death

5

of General Pulaski and the 404th anniversary of the arrival of

6

the first Polish settlers in America; therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October

8

14, 2012, as "Pulaski Day" and the month of October 2012 as

9

"Polish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania commemorating

10

the 233rd anniversary of General Pulaski's death and recognizing

11

the important contributions of Polish Americans to our nation's

12

history; and be it further 

13

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend best

14

wishes to the Polish American community in Philadelphia on the

15

79th anniversary of the Pulaski Day Parade.
