                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of February 1, 1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581),
     2     entitled "An act concerning boroughs, and revising, amending
     3     and consolidating the law relating to boroughs," further
     4     providing for insurance for former employees.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1202(37) of the act of February 1, 1966
     8  (1965 P.L.1656, No.581), known as The Borough Code, is amended
     9  to read:
    10     Section 1202.  Specific Powers.--The powers of the borough
    11  shall be vested in the corporate authorities. Among the specific
    12  powers of the borough shall be the following, and in the
    13  exercise of any of such powers involving the enactment of any
    14  ordinance or the making of any regulation, restriction or
    15  prohibition, the borough may provide for the enforcement thereof
    16  and may prescribe penalties for the violation thereof or for the
    17  failure to conform thereto:

     1     (37)  Other insurance. To appropriate such amount as may be
     2  necessary to secure insurance or compensation for volunteer
     3  firemen of companies duly recognized by the borough, by motion
     4  or resolution, killed or injured while going to, returning from,
     5  or attending fires, or while performing their duties as special
     6  fire police. To make contracts of insurance with any insurance
     7  company, association or exchange, authorized to transact
     8  business in the Commonwealth, insuring borough employes, or any
     9  class, or classes thereof, or their dependents, under a policy
    10  or policies of insurance covering life, health, hospitalization,
    11  medical and surgical service and/or accident insurance, or
    12  former borough employes who have been retired by reason of age
    13  or disability under a policy or policies of group insurance only
    14  for health, hospitalization, medical and surgical service and to
    15  contract with any such company, granting annuities or pensions,
    16  for the pensioning of borough employes, or any class, or classes
    17  thereof, and to agree to pay part or all of the premiums or
    18  charges for carrying such contracts, and to appropriate moneys
    19  from the borough treasury for such purposes. To make contracts
    20  with any insurance company, association or exchange, authorized
    21  to transact business in this Commonwealth, insuring any public
    22  liability of the borough, and to appropriate moneys from the
    23  borough treasury for such purpose.

    25     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
