        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 4, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the month of September 2004 as "Pennsylvania Grape
     2     Month."

     3     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania growers produce many of the finest food
     4  products available in the world; and
     5     WHEREAS, Today, Pennsylvania grapes are the result of the
     6  tireless efforts of generations of Pennsylvanians who were
     7  instrumental in founding our nation's great wine industry; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's 84 commercial wineries, together with
     9  the Pennsylvania Grape Industry Association, continue to promote
    10  and enhance the grape industry within this Commonwealth,
    11  improving the quality of life for its citizens; and
    12     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania produces in excess of 61,000 tons of
    13  grapes annually on more than 11,000 acres of vineyards,
    14  enriching this Commonwealth's economy by nearly $200 million
    15  annually; and
    16     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the fourth largest producer of
    17  grapes in the United States; and


     1     WHEREAS, Our growers produce the finest table, jelly and
     2  juice grapes, including such diverse varieties as the Catawba,
     3  the Concord, the Delaware and the Niagara; and
     4     WHEREAS, The largest Concord producing plant in the country
     5  is located in Pennsylvania; and
     6     WHEREAS, The grapes produced in Pennsylvania are enjoyed by
     7  the citizens of this Commonwealth and by the people of our
     8  entire nation; and
     9     WHEREAS, September is an important month of harvest for our
    10  Pennsylvania grape growers and an ideal time to recognize their
    11  contributions to our Commonwealth; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in recognition
    13  of the significant and invaluable contributions made by the
    14  grape industry to our history, our economy and our quality of
    15  life as Pennsylvanians, proclaim the month of September 2004 as
    16  "Pennsylvania Grape Month"; and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the
    18  citizens of this Commonwealth to celebrate this occasion by
    19  enjoying many of the grape products available to them through
    20  all seasons of the year.
