                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.103, No.69), entitled, as
     2     reenacted and amended, "An act concerning townships of the
     3     second class; and amending, revising, consolidating and
     4     changing the law relating thereto," further providing for
     5     terms of supervisors.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 403 of the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.103,
     9  No.69), known as The Second Class Township Code, reenacted and
    10  amended November 9, 1995 (P.L.350, No.60), is amended by adding
    11  a subsection to read:
    12     Section 403.  Supervisors.--* * *
    13     (d)  If the board of supervisors shall propose to reduce
    14  their terms of office to four years or if a petition signed by
    15  at least five percent of the voters registered to vote in the
    16  most recent general municipal election is submitted to the board
    17  requesting that their terms of office be reduced to four years,
    18  the board shall take the steps necessary to place on the ballot


     1  at the next general municipal election the question whether
     2  their terms of office shall be so reduced.
     3     (1)  If the voters choose to reduce the terms of office of
     4  the supervisors to four years, the terms of the supervisors
     5  shall be so reduced, except that the current supervisors shall
     6  be allowed to serve out the remainder of their six-year terms.
     7     (2)  After the reduction in supervisors' terms of office, a
     8  similar petition requesting the reversion to six-year terms may
     9  be voted on only after eight years of four-year terms have
    10  elapsed.
    11     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
