A RESOLUTION
Designating May 2, 2016, as "School Bus Driver Appreciation Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, School bus drivers in this Commonwealth are
responsible for safely transporting approximately 1.5 million
students to and from their schools on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, there were more than 45,000 licensed school
bus drivers in this Commonwealth, driving more than 31,000
registered school buses; and
WHEREAS, In the 2013-2014 school year, school bus drivers in
this Commonwealth logged more than 300 million miles while
transporting children to school and school activities, including
field trips, sporting events and other extracurricular
activities; and
WHEREAS, School bus drivers take on the responsibility of
watching over the students riding on their buses, providing safe

travel and a safe atmosphere by seeking to prevent bullying and
other actions; and
WHEREAS, School bus drivers come from many different
backgrounds, from those looking for something to do in
retirement to those who choose school bus driving as a career;
and
WHEREAS, The men and women who are school bus drivers are to
be commended for the job they do throughout the school year,
working in all types of weather, from early morning into the
evenings and at times on weekends, to transport students
throughout this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 2,
2016, as "School Bus Driver Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania.
