A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Capitol Police Officer Anthony E. Yip for his

2

enduring commitment to serve and protect our citizens as a

3

police officer, both on and off duty.

4

WHEREAS, Officer Anthony E. Yip was born on February 28,

5

1968, in Philadelphia; and

6

WHEREAS, Officer Yip has served with the Capitol Police since

7

August 13, 2007; and

8

WHEREAS, Since March 19, 2003, Officer Yip has been serving

9

his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard

10

where he holds the rank of Sergeant with the 1st Squadron, 104th

11

Cavalry; and

12

WHEREAS, During a tour of duty in Iraq from January 2005 to

13

January 2006, Officer Yip received the Purple Heart for his

devotion to duty; and

2

WHEREAS, From November 2007 to November 2008, Officer Yip was

3

on active duty in Egypt; and

4

WHEREAS, On January 11, 2010, Officer Yip was transferred to

5

the Philadelphia State Office Building to continue his

6

employment as a Capitol Police Officer; and

7

WHEREAS, On January 15, 2010, Officer Yip, while off duty,

8

attempted to prevent an armed robbery outside of the Bridge

9

Movie Theater located at 40th and Chestnut Streets in

10

Philadelphia; and

11

WHEREAS, While attempting to thwart the robbery, Officer Yip

12

was shot in the shoulder by the perpetrator but was able to stop

13

the robbery; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize Capitol

15

Police Officer Anthony E. Yip for his commitment to his duty as

16

a police officer and for risking his own safety to prevent a

17

robbery while off duty.
