        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 8, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Observing the week of June 5 through 13, 2004, as "National
     2     Fishing and Boating Week" in this Commonwealth and
     3     encouraging citizens to take advantage of "Fish for Free Day"
     4     on June 5, 2004.

     5     WHEREAS, Fishing is an outdoor tradition rooted deeply in the
     6  history of our State and its citizens; and
     7     WHEREAS, Each year, 1.3 million Pennsylvanians fish
     8  Commonwealth waters, making more than 18 million trips to those
     9  waters; and
    10     WHEREAS, The sport of fishing not only provides wholesome
    11  recreational opportunities but also contributes some $1.1
    12  billion of economic input to this Commonwealth, supports more
    13  than 14,000 jobs for Pennsylvanians and contributes about $54
    14  million to the General Fund in State sales and income taxes; and
    15     WHEREAS, Fishing and boating, though separate recreational


     1  pastimes, are often enjoyed simultaneously; and
     2     WHEREAS, "National Fishing and Boating Week," June 5 through
     3  13, 2004, is a cooperative program designed to promote
     4  recreational fishing and boating and aquatic resource education
     5  in the United States; and
     6     WHEREAS, In conjunction with "National Fishing and Boating
     7  Week," the Commonwealth has marked June 5, 2004, as "Fish for
     8  Free Day"; and
     9     WHEREAS, "Fish for Free Day" provides all Pennsylvanians with
    10  an opportunity to sample this Commonwealth's plentiful fishing
    11  opportunities without a fishing license; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the week of June 5 through 13, 2004, be
    13  observed as "National Fishing and Boating Week" in this
    14  Commonwealth and that citizens be encouraged to take advantage
    15  of "Fish for Free Day" on June 5, 2004.
