community impact and increasing the return on taxpayer dollars;
and
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps members recruit, train and supervise
millions of volunteers annually, demonstrating AmeriCorps' value
as a powerful catalyst and volunteer force multiplier; and
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps members have served a total of more than
1.5 billion hours nationwide, including 70 million hours of
service by residents of this Commonwealth, helping to improve
the lives of this Commonwealth's most vulnerable residents,
strengthening the educational system, protecting the environment
and contributing to public safety; and
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps members nationwide, in return for their
service, have earned more than $3.7 billion in Segal AmeriCorps
Education Awards to use to further their own educational
advancement at colleges and universities, including $167.2
million that have been awarded to residents of this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, After their terms of service end, AmeriCorps members
remain engaged in our communities as volunteers, teachers,
public servants and nonprofit leaders in disproportionately high
levels; and
WHEREAS, "AmeriCorps Week" is an opportune time for the
residents of this Commonwealth to salute AmeriCorps members of
the past and present for their powerful impact and thank all
AmeriCorps community partners in this Commonwealth who make the
program possible and bring more Americans into service;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of March 8 through 15, 2020, as "AmeriCorps Week" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
