A RESOLUTION
1 Declaring May 2004 as "Older Pennsylvanians Month" in
2 Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, Longevity is one of the greatest achievements of the
4 20th century; and
5 WHEREAS, The rapid increase in the number of older persons
6 worldwide represents a social phenomenon without historical
7 precedent; and
8 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks third nationally in the percent
9 of total population over 60 years of age and has one of the most
10 significant populations of rural elderly, with projections
11 indicating that one in two older persons is 75 years of age or
12 older; and
13 WHEREAS, It is appropriate for Pennsylvania to set time aside
14 to honor our older citizens, to recognize their continued
15 contributions and to call attention to issues that affect them
16 most; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare May 2004
2 as "Older Pennsylvanians Month" in Pennsylvania.
