A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating March 2014 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, On March 17, 2014, the Irish community in this
4Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the
5glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and

6WHEREAS, "Saint Patrick, Bless the Contributions of Irish
7Americans to Our Nation" is the theme of the 2014 St. Patrick's
8Day Parade in Philadelphia; and

9WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution
10in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores
11penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a
12future in which they and their children would enjoy the

1bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of
2liberty and justice for all; and

3WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish
4Americans have taken their place at the forefront of the
5political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and

6WHEREAS, Their contribution to the well-being and welfare of
7this Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be
8it

9RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate March
102014 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and
11extend its felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community
12in this Commonwealth on this momentous occasion; and be it
13further

14RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the
15Taoiseach, Edna Kenny T.D., Department of Taoiseach, Government
16Buildings, Upper Merrion Street, Dublin 2, Ireland, and to
17Robert M. Gessler, St. Patrick's Day Observance Association,
18P.O. Box 40744, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107.
