A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the week of March 9 through 15, 2008, as "Girl Scout 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, March 9, 2008, marks the 96th anniversary of Girl 4 Scouts of the United States of America, the organization which 5 was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, Throughout its long and distinguished history, Girl 8 Scouting has inspired millions of girls and women to achieve the 9 highest ideals of character, conduct and patriotism; and
1 WHEREAS, Through Girl Scouting, girls grow strong, gain self- 2 confidence and leadership skills and learn the lifelong lesson 3 of contributing to their communities; and 4 WHEREAS, Girl Scouting takes an active role in increasing 5 girls' awareness of the opportunities available to them today in 6 math, science, sports, technology and other fields that can 7 expand their horizons; and 8 WHEREAS, More than 3.8 million current Girl Scout members 9 Nationwide will be celebrating 96 years of this American 10 tradition with nearly 50 million women who are former Girl 11 Scouts and living proof of the impact of this amazing movement; 12 therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the 14 commitment that Girl Scouts of the United States of America has 15 made to America's girls and recognize the week of March 9 16 through 15, 2008, as "Girl Scout Week" in Pennsylvania.
