        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 11, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Pennsylvania Telephone Association on its 100th
     2     anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Telephone Association is
     4  celebrating its 100th anniversary this year; and
     5     WHEREAS, The association takes pride in its continuing
     6  mission of promoting cooperation among the regulated units of
     7  the telecommunications industry throughout this Commonwealth;
     8  and
     9     WHEREAS, The association was formed in 1902 by seven
    10  independent telephone companies for the purpose of considering
    11  how to uniformly handle the interchange of service and make
    12  settlements among companies; and
    13     WHEREAS, The association promotes the interests of 37 local
    14  telephone member companies; and
    15     WHEREAS, The local telephone companies in this Commonwealth

     1  serve more than 8 million access lines and employ 23,000
     2  individuals; and
     3     WHEREAS, Association member companies represent a more than
     4  $6.5 billion industry, purchasing more than $125 million in
     5  goods and services every year and supporting an annual payroll
     6  of $1.6 billion; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
     8  Pennsylvania Telephone Association upon its 100th anniversary,
     9  recognize the vital role member companies play in keeping
    10  Pennsylvania citizens connected to each other and the world and
    11  offer best wishes for continued success; and be it further
    12     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    13  the Pennsylvania Telephone Association.
