AN ACT
1 Amending the act of February 1, 1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581)
2 entitled "An act concerning boroughs, and revising, amending
3 and consolidating the law relating to boroughs," increasing
4 the maximum rate of tax for general purposes.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. The introductory clause of the first paragraph of
8 section 1302, act of February 1, 1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581),
9 known as "The Borough Code," amended December 2, 1976 (No.274),
10 is amended to read:
11 Section 1302. Tax Levy.--The council of the borough shall
12 have power, by ordinance, to levy and collect annually, a tax,
13 not exceeding [thirty] thirty-five mills for general borough
14 purposes, unless the council by majority action shall, upon due
15 cause shown by resolution, petition the court of common pleas,
16 in which case the court may order a rate of not more than five
17 mills additional to be levied and in addition thereto any of the
18 following taxes:
