                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, changing provisions relating to
     3     purchase of military service.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Subsection (e) of section 5304 and subsection (c)
     7  of section 5505 of Title 71, act of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707,
     8  No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, are
     9  amended to read:
    10  § 5304.  Creditable nonstate service.

    12     (e)  Purchase of nonintervening military service.--In no case
    13  shall a member be permitted to make more than [one purchase] two
    14  purchases of nonintervening military service as listed in
    15  subsection (c)(2).
    16  § 5505.  Contributions for the purchase of credit for creditable
    17           nonstate service.

     1     (c)  Intervening military service.--Contributions on account
     2  of credit for intervening military service shall be determined
     3  by the member's contribution rate and compensation at the time
     4  of entry of the member into active military service, together
     5  with statutory interest during all periods of subsequent State
     6  and school service to date of purchase. Upon application for
     7  such credit the amount due shall be certified in the case of
     8  each member by the board in accordance with methods approved by
     9  the actuary, and contributions may be made by:
    10         (1)  regular monthly payments during active military
    11     service; or
    12         (2)  a lump sum payment within 30 days of certification;
    13     or
    14         (3)  salary deductions payable within a 60-month period
    15     in amounts agreed upon by the member and the board.

    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
