           DeWEESE, D. EVANS, FICHTER, FREEMAN, PISTELLA, THOMAS, CURRY,
           GABIG, HENNESSEY, KAISER, McGEEHAN, ROEBUCK, WALKO, GEIST,
           JAMES, MARKOSEK, MELIO AND STEELMAN, MARCH 27, 2002

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, MARCH 27, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the General Assembly to offer the TransitChek benefit
     2     program to State employees.

     3     WHEREAS, The Federal tax code and the Transportation Equity
     4  Act for the 21st Century allow employers to provide their
     5  employees with up to $100 per month in pretax commuting
     6  benefits; and
     7     WHEREAS, The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission
     8  offers the TransitChek program, a commuter benefit program that
     9  provides incentive for the use of public transportation and van
    10  pools; and
    11     WHEREAS, Participation in and use of the TransitChek program
    12  by the Commonwealth will demonstrate the Commonwealth's
    13  commitment to public transportation and encourage wider use of
    14  this valuable program in public and private sectors; and
    15     WHEREAS, Use of public transportation and commuter benefits
    16  by the public and private sectors reduces traffic congestion on
    17  highways throughout this Commonwealth; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the General
     2  Assembly to offer the TransitChek benefit program to State
     3  employees.
