INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 27, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Commending the Penn State Icers, The Pennsylvania State 2 University men's ice hockey team, on winning their third 3 consecutive American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) 4 national championship and sixth national title. 5 WHEREAS, The Penn State Icers recently won their third 6 consecutive ACHA national championship and sixth national title 7 overall by defeating Illinois 4-0; and 8 WHEREAS, The win marks the third consecutive season and the 9 fourth time in the last five seasons that the Icers have won the 10 ACHA national championship; and 11 WHEREAS, The Icers captured the championship after defeating 12 their opponents by a collective score of 20-5; and 13 WHEREAS, Junior goalie Scott Graham and the Icer defense 14 turned away 23 shots to register the first shutout in an ACHA 15 title game since 1995 and to stop an Illinois offense that had 16 scored 22 goals in the first three tournament games; and 17 WHEREAS, Sophomore defenseman Curtiss Patrick scored a goal 18 and an assist despite playing with a partially separated
1 shoulder, and senior captain Kyle Jordan, junior forward Neal 2 Price and leading scorer Glenn Zuck each scored to pace the 3 Icers to the solid 4-0 win; and 4 WHEREAS, Neal Price was named the Tournament MVP as he led 5 the Icers with two goals and seven assists, while goalie Scott 6 Graham, defenseman Josh Mandel and forward Glenn Zuck were named 7 to the All-Tournament first team; and 8 WHEREAS, Freshman Kevin Jaeger was named to the second team 9 and sophomore forward Bill Downey and senior defenseman and team 10 captain Scott Curry were named to the Honorable Mention All- 11 Tournament Team; and 12 WHEREAS, The Icers have also excelled in the classroom 13 earning a team grade point average of 3.12 for the fall 14 semester, including ten players on dean's lists, 19 players with 15 a grade point average of 3.0 or better and an ACHA and school 16 record seven ACHA Academic All-Americans; therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the Penn 18 State Icers, The Pennsylvania State University men's ice hockey 19 team, and Head Coach Joe Battista and the coaching staff on 20 winning their third consecutive ACHA national championship and 21 sixth national title.
