A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of October 30 through November 5, 2011, as

2

"Pioneer Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The Pioneers, a volunteer network with a membership

4

of more than 800,000, is the largest social-industrial service

5

organization in the world; and

6

WHEREAS, The Pioneers all over the United States, Canada and

7

Mexico have joined in and reached out beyond their membership

8

into their communities in service to others; and

9

WHEREAS, The Pioneers have, through this service to others,

10

made life more meaningful and enjoyable for thousands of

11

children and elderly, handicapped and disadvantaged people; and

12

WHEREAS, The Pioneers have helped make our land, waters and

13

air cleaner and more beautiful through their hundreds of

14

environmental projects; and

WHEREAS, The Pioneers are marking their Centennial

2

Anniversary of their founding with the theme "Answering the Call

3

of Those in Need"; and

4

WHEREAS, The Telephone Pioneers of America were founded by

5

244 employees, including Alexander Graham Bell, in New York City

6

on November 2, 1911, and continue as a volunteer network

7

performing community service in Pennsylvania; therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

9

week of October 30 through November 5, 2011, as "Pioneer Week"

10

in Pennsylvania.
