A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing October 23, 1993, as the tenth anniversary of the 2 bombing of the United States Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut, 3 Lebanon. 4 WHEREAS, On October 23, 1983, the United States Marine Corps 5 Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, was the object of a bomb attack; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, The cowardly attack caused the death of 241 8 servicemen who were deployed to Lebanon as part of a 9 multinational peacekeeping mission to attempt to restore order 10 to war-torn Beirut; and 11 WHEREAS, From 1982 to 1984, a total of 273 American 12 servicemen and many soldiers from other countries gave their 13 lives attempting to restore peace to this strife-torn area; and 14 WHEREAS, The heroic efforts of the United States Marines, 15 members of other branches of the United States Armed Forces and 16 soldiers from other countries, their sacrifices and the 17 hardships suffered by their families should not be forgotten; 18 therefore be it
