        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, SEPTEMBER 23, 1992

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Proclaiming October 24 through November 1, 1992, as "Red Ribbon
     2     Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Drug abuse, including alcohol, in this nation and in
     4  this Commonwealth has reached epidemic proportions and continues
     5  to be especially destructive of our youth; and
     6     WHEREAS, Only an all-out effort by government, law
     7  enforcement, schools, religious institutions, communities and
     8  individuals will be effective in reducing the demand for drugs;
     9  and
    10     WHEREAS, The national campaign to focus on drugs, the Red
    11  Ribbon Campaign, will be celebrated during the week of October
    12  24 through November 1, 1992; and
    13     WHEREAS, People in all walks of life are urged to demonstrate
    14  their commitment to a drug-free life style by wearing a red
    15  ribbon during this week; and
    16     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania wholly subscribes
    17  to this worthwhile expression of dedication to a cooperative


     1  endeavor to stamp out drug abuse; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proclaim October
     3  24 through November 1, 1992, as "Red Ribbon Week" in
     4  Pennsylvania and urge all citizens to participate in drug
     5  education and prevention activities to make a united show of
     6  support for the commitment to a drug-free community and
     7  endorsement of the pledge: "The Choice For Me: Drug-Free!"
