        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 25, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing and congratulating Vietnam Veterans of America,
     2     Inc., on the celebration of its 20th anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, In January 1978, a group of 15 Vietnam veteran
     4  advocates assembled in Washington, D.C., and began the
     5  organization that became Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc.(VVA);
     6  and
     7     WHEREAS, VVA is currently the only congressionally chartered
     8  national Vietnam veterans service organization exclusively
     9  dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families; and
    10     WHEREAS, VVA's founding principle is "Never again will one

     1  generation of veterans abandon another"; and
     2     WHEREAS, VVA's goals are to promote and support the full
     3  range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, create a new
     4  identity for this generation of veterans and change the public
     5  perception of Vietnam veterans; and
     6     WHEREAS, VVA has over 51,000 individual members, 43 state
     7  councils and over 525 local chapters; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and
     9  congratulate Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc., on the
    10  celebration of its 20th anniversary.
