        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 6, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the achievements and 10th anniversary of Bayer's
     2     Making Science Make Sense program.

     3     WHEREAS, Making Science Make Sense has in just one decade
     4  become a leader in implementing national science education
     5  reform in western Pennsylvania and in other areas of this
     6  Commonwealth and the nation; and
     7     WHEREAS, Making Science Make Sense's standards-based
     8  education reform initiative has positively impacted the quality
     9  of instruction and has improved student performance in the
    10  classroom; and
    11     WHEREAS, Making Science Make Sense has achieved excellence
    12  through new teacher professional development, hands-on and
    13  inquiry-based learning, public education and employee


     1  volunteerism; and
     2     WHEREAS, Making Science Make Sense has reached more than 1
     3  million teachers and students during the last decade, bringing
     4  science to life in classrooms and homes nationwide; and
     5     WHEREAS, Making Science Make Sense has bridged western
     6  Pennsylvania school districts and has brought together
     7  governmental agencies, corporations and colleges and
     8  universities in support of educational reform; and
     9     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has benefited from this highly
    10  respected resource; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    12  achievements of Making Science Make Sense in improving teacher
    13  and student classroom performance and meeting goals of leaving
    14  no child behind and offer congratulations on the celebration of
    15  its 10th anniversary.
