A RESOLUTION 1 Commending Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Blue 2 Shield and the hospitals, physicians and other private 3 contributors who have brought health care to low-income 4 children through the innovative Caring Program for Children. 5 WHEREAS, Children in low-income families receive 40% to 50% 6 less medical care than other children in the United States; and 7 WHEREAS, There are 1.2 million Pennsylvanians without health 8 care coverage; and 9 WHEREAS, 300,000 uninsured Pennsylvanians are children; and 10 WHEREAS, Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania 11 Blue Shield have developed a health care program for uninsured 12 children; and 13 WHEREAS, This unique program, the Caring Program for 14 Children, offers primary preventive health care coverage to 15 uninsured children; and
1 WHEREAS, The program seeks and receives contributions from 2 the private sector; and 3 WHEREAS, The cost of this program is approximately $156 per 4 child per year; and 5 WHEREAS, More than 14,000 children in western Pennsylvania 6 have benefited from the Caring Program for Children; therefore 7 be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend Blue 9 Cross of Western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Blue Shield for 10 its bold initiative to provide preventive health care services 11 to children; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the 13 hospitals, physicians and other private contributors in western 14 Pennsylvania who have made this program successful; and be it 15 further 16 RESOLVED, That the General Assembly encourage all Blue Cross 17 plans in Pennsylvania to develop programs for uninsured children 18 in the geographic regions they serve; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted by 20 the Chief Clerk to Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania, 5th 21 Avenue Place, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15222; and to 22 Pennsylvania Blue Shield, 1800 Center Street, Camp Hill, 23 Pennsylvania, 17089.
