A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and expressing condolences on the death of

2

Harry Kalas.

3

WHEREAS, Harry Kalas was best known as lead play-by-play

4

announcer for Major League Baseball's Philadelphia Phillies

5

since 1971; and

6

WHEREAS, Mr. Kalas served as a voice-over narrator for

7

National Football League (NFL) films which was a regular feature

8

on Inside the NFL; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kalas was also known for calling NFL games for

2

Westwood One radio; and

3

WHEREAS, Mr. Kalas won the Ford C. Frick Award from the

4

Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002; and

5

WHEREAS, Mr. Kalas was an announcer for the ceremonial

6

closing of Veterans Stadium in 2003 and served as master of

7

ceremonies at the opening of Citizens Bank Park in 2004; and

8

WHEREAS, Harry the K's restaurant on the base of the main

9

scoreboard at Citizens Bank Park was named in honor of Mr.

10

Kalas; and

11

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Delaware County, Mr. Kalas

12

received the David Henderson Humanitarian Award from the

13

American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter at the 2008

14

Clara Barton Ball for his commitment to community service and

15

leadership; and

16

WHEREAS, On April 13, 2009, Harry Kalas died at the age of 73

17

and is survived by his wife Eileen, his three sons Todd, Brad

18

and Kane and numerous friends and fans; therefore be it

19

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life

20

and express condolences on the death of Harry Kalas.
