                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating May 1996 as "Armed Forces History Month" and urging
     2     the Secretary of Education and the Department of Education to
     3     integrate military history and contributions of our veterans
     4     into the social studies curriculum.

     5     WHEREAS, The role of the United States military continues in
     6  its importance and relevance in an evolving world; and
     7     WHEREAS, Millions of Pennsylvania's sons and daughters have
     8  defended our nation during peace and armed conflicts; and
     9     WHEREAS, It is important for the people of this Commonwealth
    10  to understand our nation's military history and the
    11  contributions Pennsylvanians have made in preserving the liberty
    12  of its people and principles; and
    13     WHEREAS, Learning military history imbues students with the


     1  knowledge of where we have been as a nation by defining moments
     2  that have shaped the character of the people and policies of the
     3  United States, thereby preparing us for challenges we may face
     4  in the future; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May
     6  1996 as "Armed Forces History Month" and urge the Secretary of
     7  Education and the Department of Education to encourage the
     8  integration of military history and the contributions of our
     9  veterans into Pennsylvania's social studies curriculum.
