A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating May 2013 as "Honor and Remember Month" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, More should be done to pay tribute to the fallen
4soldiers of this nation; and

5WHEREAS, A recent survey found that 80% of all Americans do
6not know why Memorial Day exists; and

7WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag symbolizes the
8remembrance of the brave American men and women of the United
9States Armed Forces who have given their lives in the line of
10duty since the founding of the United States; and

11WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag was initially created in
12remembrance of Corporal George Lutz, II, after his community
13members realized that there was no universally recognized symbol
14that specifically acknowledges the American service men and

1women who never made it home; and

2WHEREAS, Many families and friends of fallen heroes will be
3submitting information about their lost loved ones to local
4media outlets, in the hope these outlets will organize and
5present this information to the public; and

6WHEREAS, "Honor and Remember Month" will place special
7emphasis on recognizing all generations of fallen military
8heroes; and

9WHEREAS, This month will give an opportunity for every
10citizen to learn about the cost of liberty and to bring
11attention to the reason Memorial Day was established; and

12WHEREAS, In 2011, the Honor and Remember Flag was recognized
13as the Commonwealth's emblem of service and sacrifice; therefore
14be it

15RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage
16businesses, schools and organizations to create a display
17containing photos and information about fallen heroes from their
18town or neighborhood; and be it further

19RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
20month of May 2013 as "Honor and Remember Month" in Pennsylvania.
