A RESOLUTION

Recognizing May 14 through 22, 2011, as "Outdoor Living Week" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Outdoor Living Week seeks to promote public

4

awareness of the beneficial outdoor activities of gardening that

5

foster physical, mental, emotional and environmental health and

6

showcase the originality and creativity of this Commonwealth's

7

residents; and

8

WHEREAS, Gardens and landscaping add to the value of the

9

community through aesthetics and investment by homeowners; and

10

WHEREAS, Gardens and landscaping contribute to the health of

11

our environment through carbon sequestration and storm water

12

management; and

13

WHEREAS, Gardens and landscaping offer a habitat for wildlife

14

and joy for bird watchers; and

15

WHEREAS, Gardens are a local source of fresh fruits and

16

vegetables for families and local communities; and

17

WHEREAS, Outdoor Living Week is being celebrated in

18

conjunction with the annual benefit tour Outdoor Living Showcase

that features the beautiful outdoor living spaces and gardens

2

throughout Lancaster County that exemplify the creative and

3

original style of their owners; and

4

WHEREAS, The Outdoor Living Showcase also highlights the

5

talents and craftsmanship of local landscape designers; and

6

WHEREAS, The Outdoor Living Showcase was conceived by the

7

area's premier landscape companies as a fundraising event to

8

benefit the local community; and

9

WHEREAS, This year, the showcase is supporting the Lancaster

10

Day Care Center; therefore be it

11

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 14

12

through 22, 2011, as "Outdoor Living Week" in Pennsylvania; and

13

be it further

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives ask that citizens

15

and communities throughout this Commonwealth, individually and

16

collectively, engage in the celebration of "Outdoor Living Week"

17

by planting flowers, shrubs, trees, fruits and vegetables in

18

appropriate places as a source of future enjoyment.
