                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for definitions and
     6     for health services.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1401 of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is
    11  amended by adding a definition to read:
    12     Section 1401.  Definitions.--As used in this article--
    13     (13)  "Screening for diabetes" means a noninvasive
    14  examination that assesses a child's potential to develop
    15  diabetes by examining risk factors that include obesity or any
    16  other factors consistent with increased risk.
    17     Section 2.  Section 1402(a) of the act, amended August 9,

     1  1963 (P.L.642, No.340), is amended to read:
     2     Section 1402.  Health Services.--(a)  Each child of school
     3  age shall be given by methods established by the Advisory Health
     4  Board, (1) a vision test by a school nurse, medical technician
     5  or teacher, (2) a hearing test by a school nurse or medical
     6  technician, (3) a measurement of height and weight by a school
     7  nurse or teacher, (4) tests for tuberculosis under medical
     8  supervision, (5) screening for diabetes by a school nurse,
     9  medical technician or teacher, and [(5)] (6) such other tests as
    10  the Advisory Health Board may deem advisable to protect the
    11  health of the child. Vision tests shall be given at least
    12  annually and other tests at intervals established by the
    13  Advisory Health Board.
