A RESOLUTION 1 Amending House Resolution No. 198, Printer's No. 2678. 2 RESOLVED, That House Resolution No. 198, Printer's No. 2678, 3 adopted March 20, 1984, be amended to read: 4 WHEREAS, The act of March 3, 1978 (P.L.6, No.3), known as the 5 Steel Products Procurement Act, was enacted as an exercise of 6 the police powers of the Commonwealth for the protection of the 7 health, safety and general welfare of the people of the 8 Commonwealth; and 9 WHEREAS, Numerous questions have arisen regarding compliance 10 with the aforesaid act and the procedures used by public 11 agencies to determine compliance with that act; and 12 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is desirous of 13 reviewing the procedures used by public agencies to determine 14 compliance with the aforesaid act; and 15 WHEREAS, It is the desire of the House of Representatives to 16 investigate compliance with the aforesaid act; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the Speaker of the House of Representatives 2 appoint a select committee to investigate compliance with the 3 Steel Products Procurement Act, and other matters relating to 4 the compliance with State law and the performance of State 5 construction projects, five members to be from the majority 6 party and four members to be from the minority party; and be it 7 further 8 RESOLVED, That in carrying out [it's] its duties the select 9 committee may exercise all powers permitted to be exercised by 10 standing committees as provided for in the Rules of the House of 11 Representatives; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That the select committee is specifically 13 authorized and empowered to conduct hearings at any place in the 14 Commonwealth to investigate any matter provided for in this 15 resolution. Such select committee is empowered to issue 16 subpoenas under the hand and seal of the chairman thereof 17 commanding any person to appear before it and answer questions 18 touching matters properly being inquired into by the select 19 committee and produce such books, papers, records, accounts, 20 reports and documents as the select committee deems necessary. 21 Each member of the select committee shall have power to 22 administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses appearing before 23 the select committee; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That the committee is authorized to hire such staff 25 and assistants as it deems necessary and the fees and expenses 26 therefor and the fees and expenses incurred by the committee 27 shall be paid from accounts under the control of the Chief 28 Clerk, NOT TO EXCEED $50,000; and be it further <-- 29 RESOLVED, That the select committee make a report of its 30 investigation to the House of Representatives by the end of the 19840H0239R3149 - 2 -
