        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 23, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the month of October 1997 as "Radon Action Month" in
     2     this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Exposure to radon poses significant health risks;
     4  and
     5     WHEREAS, As part of the Environmental Protection Agency's
     6  1997 Radon Awareness and Risk Reduction Mini-Grant Program, the
     7  Department of Environmental Protection is conducting a public
     8  awareness campaign in connection with National Radon Action
     9  Week; and
    10     WHEREAS, Under the Radon Awareness and Risk Reduction Mini-
    11  Grant Program, the various mini-grants ranging from $500 to
    12  $10,000 will be awarded for projects that will increase public
    13  and professional awareness about the health risks associated


     1  with exposure to radon, the need for increased testing and the
     2  mitigation of radon exposure; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the month
     4  of October 1997 as "Radon Action Month" in this Commonwealth.
