A RESOLUTION
Designating April 15, 2015, as "Purple Up! Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since September 11, 2001, more than 30,000
Pennsylvania National Guard members, reservists and active-duty
personnel have been deployed in the support of the Global War on
Terrorism; and
WHEREAS, An estimate of the number of children in this
Commonwealth having at least one parent currently serving in the
National Guard, Reserves or active components of the armed
forces exceeds 32,000; and
WHEREAS, Nationwide more than 700,000 children have
experienced the deployment of one or more parents since 2001;
and
WHEREAS, More than 40% of military personnel have children
who are left behind during these deployments; and

WHEREAS, The month of April has been observed as the "Month
of the Military Child"; and
WHEREAS, The United States Department of Defense, armed
services, cabinet agencies, the White House initiative Joining
Forces as well as nonprofit organizations, businesses and
communities throughout our nation join in this observance; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting that we recognize and honor the
sacrifices and celebrate the spirit of our men and women in
uniform; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting that we let them know that we are
taking care of their children while they are protecting us; and
WHEREAS, When parents serve in the military, their children
serve as well; and
WHEREAS, Purple, symbolizing all branches of the military, is
worn as a tribute to our bravely serving men and women;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
15, 2015, as "Purple Up! Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
Pennsylvanians to show support for our military children by
wearing the color purple on April 15, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
every military installation in this Commonwealth.
