A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the One Step for Change 5K Walk, sponsored by
Northwest Victim Services, and honoring Northwest Victim
Services for its outstanding support and advocacy on behalf
of crime victims.
WHEREAS, Northwest Victim Services was founded in 1981 as the
City of Philadelphia's first community-based victim services
program; and
WHEREAS, Northwest Victim Services is a nonprofit agency that
serves victims of crime within the 5th, 14th, 35th and 39th
Philadelphia Police Districts; and
WHEREAS, Northwest Victim Services offers free services,
which include providing crisis and supportive counseling,
information about the criminal justice system, referrals to
other government agencies and assistance in submitting claims to
the Commonwealth's crime victim compensation program, and also
accompanies victims and their families to hearings and trials;
and

WHEREAS, Northwest Victim Services is known for the
compassion and commitment to effective service demonstrated by
its staff, volunteers and board of directors; and
WHEREAS, Northwest Victim Services has served as a model for
other victim service agencies in the City of Philadelphia, which
have actively sought technical assistance and expertise from
Northwest Victim Services' leaders, when organizing their own
programs; and
WHEREAS, On April 25, 2015, Northwest Victim Services, in
partnership with its sister agency North Central Victim
Services, will host its first One Step for Change 5K Walk; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of the One Step for Change 5K Walk is to
advocate for safer neighborhoods, educate the community about
victims' rights and raise funds necessary to support victims of
crime; and
WHEREAS, The One Step for Change 5K Walk will be held during
"National Crime Victims' Rights Week," which takes place April
19 through 25, 2015; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the One
Step for Change 5K Walk, sponsored by Northwest Victim Services,
and honor Northwest Victim Services for more than 30 years of
outstanding support and advocacy on behalf of crime victims; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Northwest Victim Services.
