A RESOLUTION 1 Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University football team, 2 the "Nittany Lions." 3 WHEREAS, The 1985 Pennsylvania State University football
1 team, the "Nittany Lions," completed their regular season with a 2 perfect record of 11 wins without a loss or tie; and 3 WHEREAS, The "Nittany Lions" have concluded their regular 4 season with a rating as the Number 1 football team in the Nation 5 by both the United Press International and the Associated Press; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, The "Nittany Lions," by their dedication to 8 scholastic athletic excellence without sacrificing academic 9 achievement, have again distinguished themselves and their great 10 head coach, Joe Paterno, and brought honor and distinction to 11 their University and this Commonwealth; and 12 WHEREAS, Having previously captured the coveted 1982 National 13 Championship, this season represents an addition of another 14 praiseworthy accomplishment to a continuing litany of honors and 15 accomplishments by the "Nittany Lions;" and 16 WHEREAS, The "Nittany Lions" will be representing The 17 Pennsylvania State University and this Commonwealth when they 18 face the Oklahoma "Sooners" in the Orange Bowl in Miami, 19 Florida, on New Year's Day, January 1, 1986; therefore be it 20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 21 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania congratulate and commend The 22 Pennsylvania State University football team, the "Nittany 23 Lions," and their great head coach, Joe Paterno, on their 24 commendable 1985 football season and extend to them best wishes 25 in their game with Oklahoma and in all of their future 26 endeavors; and be it further 27 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Head 28 Coach Joe Paterno and to each member of the 1985 "Nittany Lions" 29 football team.
