A RESOLUTION
1 Honoring and congratulating the Association of Pennsylvania
2 State College and University Faculties on the occasion of its
3 50th anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, On November 14, 1987, the Association of
5 Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, or APSCUF,
6 will mark its 50th anniversary; and
7 WHEREAS, Since its humble founding as the "Association of
8 State Teachers College Faculty in Pennsylvania" in 1937, APSCUF
9 has built a remarkable record of achievement in support of
10 quality public higher education while serving as an advocate for
11 faculty professional concerns; and
12 WHEREAS, Since 1971, APSCUF has been the exclusive collective
13 bargaining representative of 4,500 faculty members in the 14
14 State-owned institutions of higher learning; and
15 WHEREAS, APSCUF has been a vigorous collective bargaining
16 representative, successfully securing, preserving and protecting
17 the rights of faculty members through the collective bargaining
18 process while preserving the important aspects of collegiality,
1 faculty governance and academic freedom -- all essential for the
2 well-being and growth of our State-owned universities; and
3 WHEREAS, The record of APSCUF's achievements has benefited
4 the faculty members, the State-owned universities, the students
5 and all of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;
6 therefore be it
7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
8 Association of Pennsylvania State College and University
9 Faculties on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and recognize
10 APSCUF for its continuing dedication to the pursuit of quality
11 higher education in Pennsylvania and wish it continued future
12 success; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
14 the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University
15 Faculties.
