A RESOLUTION
1 Congratulating the City of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, on the
2 observance of its 100th Anniversary.
3 WHEREAS, The City of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, traces its
4 beginning to land transfers to early settlers in the late 18th
5 Century; and
6 WHEREAS, Those land transfers led to the formation of
7 Parnassus Borough on April 9, 1872, and to the incorporation of
8 the Borough of New Kensington on November 28, 1892; and
9 WHEREAS, Parnassus Borough and New Kensington Borough
10 consolidated on January 5, 1931, and ultimately resulted in the
11 chartering of New Kensington as a third class city on January 1,
12 1932; and
13 WHEREAS, New Kensington blossomed as an industrial and
14 commercial center during the 1800's; and
15 WHEREAS, Industry has played an important role in New
16 Kensington, and the city earned the title "The Aluminum City"
17 because of the establishment of the mother plant of the industry
1 there in 1891; and
2 WHEREAS, New Kensington has, throughout its history, grown
3 and prospered through the skills and labors of its residents,
4 embracing and exemplifying the energy, dedication and diversity
5 from which our nation and this Commonwealth draw their strength;
6 therefore be it
7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
8 City of New Kensington on its 100th Anniversary; and be it
9 further
10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
11 the Mayor and City Council of New Kensington.
