THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA

HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 175 Session of 1989

INTRODUCED BY CLYMER, BATTISTO, PITTS, PHILLIPS, MOWERY, BILLOW,
CARN, ROEBUCK, J. L. WRIGHT, WILSON, FLEAGLE, BIRMELIN,
HERSHEY, JOHNSON, TELEK, SAURMAN, GODSHALL, NOYE, HERMAN,
LEH, MARSICO, GRUPPO, FOSTER AND HAYES, JUNE 30, 1989

REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 30, 1989

                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Urging the Governor and the Secretary of Revenue not to conduct
     2 lottery drawings on Sundays.

3 WHEREAS, The Secretary of Revenue has announced his intention
4 to authorize the holding of drawings of winning lottery tickets
     5 on Sundays; and
6 WHEREAS, Lottery drawings are currently being conducted
7 everyday of the week except Sunday; and
8 WHEREAS, Sunday drawings would not only help proliferate
9 gambling, but would also detract from the longstanding
10 recognition of Sunday as a day of worship, family activities and
    11 rest; and
12 WHEREAS, The increased revenues which the Commonwealth might
13 derive from Sunday drawings should be weighed against the
14 adverse effect it may have on the religious and moral values of
15 our citizens; therefore be it
16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the Governor
17 and the Secretary of Revenue not to conduct lottery drawings on

1 Sundays; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
3 the Governor and the Secretary of Revenue.
