A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 10, 2015, as "World Tennis Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "World Tennis Day" was first launched by the
International Tennis Federation and StarGames on March 4, 2013;
and
WHEREAS, The purpose of "World Tennis Day" is to promote the
sport of tennis and to increase participation among young
players around the globe; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 90 countries support and participate
in "World Tennis Day," including the United States; and
WHEREAS, The highlight of "World Tennis Day" will be the BNP
Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden, featuring well-known
tennis players such as Roger Federer, Grigor Dimitrov, Monica
Seles and Gabriela Sabatini; and
WHEREAS, The 2015 BNP Paribas Showdown will raise money for
tennis programs sponsored by the United States Tennis

Association Foundation benefiting under-resourced youth,
individuals with disabilities and ill and injured service
members, veterans and their families; and
WHEREAS, Tennis is an excellent source of exercise and
physical activity; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 17 million people play tennis in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, Athletes across this Commonwealth play tennis for
enjoyment and competition; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize March
10, 2015, as "World Tennis Day" in Pennsylvania.
