        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, MAY 27, 1987

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Governor to declare the month of June 1987 as
     2     "Pennsylvania Travel Month."

     1     WHEREAS, The travel and tourism industry in Pennsylvania is
     2  truly a "friend" to Pennsylvania and plays a valuable role in
     3  creating a positive image of this Commonwealth and its
     4  resources; and
     5     WHEREAS, May 17 through 23, 1987, is "National Tourism Week";
     6  and
     7     WHEREAS, The travel and tourism industry is the second
     8  largest nonagricultural industry in this Commonwealth,
     9  contributing heavily to Pennsylvania's economic prosperity and
    10  placing it fifth among the states of this nation in annual
    11  tourism receipts; and
    12     WHEREAS, At a time of high unemployment, Pennsylvania's
    13  travel industry accounted for many jobs in 1986 and is today the
    14  largest single employer of women and minorities; and
    15     WHEREAS, Continuing economic recovery can be expected to


     1  produce increases in personal income and leisure time, which in
     2  turn can be expected to contribute to growth in the travel and
     3  tourism industry; and
     4     WHEREAS, The travel and tourism industry in this Commonwealth
     5  is to be commended for promoting Pennsylvania as the beautiful,
     6  friendly, historic and desirable vacation destination that it
     7  is; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the
     9  Governor to declare the month of June 1987 as "Pennsylvania
    10  Travel Month."
